Tian Chua wants same magistrate to hear case (the Star 19.6.2008)

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR information chief Tian Chua wants the original magistrate who heard his assault trial, who is now a High Court deputy registrar, to continue hearing the case.

Chua, whose full name is Chua Tian Chang, made this known through his counsel Lai Chee Hoe when his case was called up for mention yesterday.

The lawyer pointed out that the first witness, who was one of the arresting officers, had testified extensively before the original magistrate, Tasnim Abu Bakar, during the examination-in-chief as well as cross-examination.

Mohd Faizi Che Abu, who took over from Tasnim as magistrate in the court where the 45-year-old politician was charged in January, instructed Lai to direct the request to the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court via a letter.

Mohd Faizi then fixed July 24 for another mention of the case.

Chua, who is Batu MP, is accused of assaulting Kons Rosyaidi Anuar, 20, on Dec 11 at about 10.45am at the entrance of the Parliament House.

The police constable had alleged that he was bitten on his arm.
